Bears - all species - usually account for 2-3 deaths a year in North America. Compare that to the 100 - 120 deaths per year from wasp and bee stings and the number seems pretty insignificant.
As long as most people avoid pulling a "Treadwell" and don't camp with the bacon in their sleeping bag they should be OK
