Any goals for this year......??

I am not one to do New Years resolutions................. but this year I have decided on a few things......

Lost my Mom to cancer fall of 2009..... spent a lot of time with her until the end and then spent time with my Dad afterwards..... summer and fall fishing, then hunting took a back seat that year..... fast forward to very early summer 2010.... had a absolutely great dino spring fishery. Many fish in the 7-9.5' and many 15-25 fish days! Was already looking forward to the fall fishery and hunting when my family got into serious car accident. Kids were fine after a short period, but wife was (thanfully slowly on the mend) some what of a wreck. Another season of hunting and fishing gone (yes, for a good reason!!)

So, now I have decided this is the year to get Srupp into his biggest fish ever! Throw in our buddy Phil, see who can get tired the fastest and good times should be had by all..........

Throw in some hunting with my son, hopefully up in Sruppland, more dino and salmon fishing with new friends off the different sites and a healthy family!!!

So what plans for the year have YOU made??....

Mike

I really haven't made any definte plans but I plan on spending time bear hunting in the spring (will have 3 baits to maintain). The summer will be spending every other weekend at the lake at least. Come the July long weekend I will be in SW Sask for the annual CGN gopher shoot. August will be more time fishing at the lake. Come September it is bow season, and depending on my drawings I will be bowhunting for deer & possibly antelope. Once deer seasons are done in December I will be chasing coyotes again. Look at that I guess I do have some plans.

Also for next year I will be working on getting the fence & rear yard finished too.

And with all that I am planning a trip to Africa in 2012/2013

I WON'T be lettin' the hounds have another fall litter EVER Again!
Had to pass on my usual guide gig over in Alberta due to TEN Wolf Hybrid pups running around the Hacienda. And while I did rather enjoy putting in more time and effort than I ever have before on Blacktails, I very much missed the Fun over the Big Hills. Chatted with my Outfitter after the season, and this was what I missed out on:

- Muley hunt that was mine to guide, knew exactly where the Biggie was. Hunter guided by my Outfitter in my absence, tagged a buck that was barely shy of 200 B&C. Client's largest to date. $ 10,000 tip.

- Since the Big Buck was taken so early in the hunt, the hunter decided to latch on to one of the elk tags we have in the same area. First morning on them nails a 385 bull. Another $ 2,500 into the guide's pocket.

- Outfitter knows that bull wasn't the biggest in the area, returns for a two-day personal look. Tags a beauty of a Bull that is barely shy of 400 B&C.

- Operation then moved north. Client is fussy, and spends nearly a week passing up what most would consider "Shooters". Second to last day of his hunt tags out on a B&C whitetail. Again largest for him to date. Another generous tip.

ALL of that would have been coming my way. OUCH! Missed on over $15K in tips, let alone wages and the Fun. And the opportunity to at least chase that Monster Elk.

Outfitter asks: Gonna miss next year? NOT ON YOUR LIFE! Although it will likely take me five years to put that scenario together, I will be there trying!

Client phoned to say that although he missed my presence, the Ladz did more than a reasonable job of substituting for me. Hopes to see me next fall... Ouch and aYup!

Cheers,
Iron

I plan not to be stuck in some other country working my azz off missing out on the entire summer of fishing and boating and the entire hunting season.

Mind you I'm now stuck in the freezing cold supervising a coil tubing operation. Things do appear to be turning around for me though.

So here is to hoping for some big fish, big deer and huge elk in my future this year.
