boating licence

Subject: Okanagan BCWF Wilderness Watch Update - Wood and Kalamalka checks

Between 60 and 70 anglers checked on Sunday, April 18th on Wood and Kalamalka Lakes:

Good news:
No fishing license violations
No fish quota violations

Not so good news:
1 in 5 did not have pleasure craft operator's card
90% non-compliance with required boater safety gear (life jackets, paddles, bailer,
floating rope, signaling device, flashlight, etc)

As of now, Conservation Officers are mandated to check for boater cards and safety
gear. Please ensure that you spread the word that people need to get their boater
cards, life jackets, paddles, and other safety gear in place. The "orange bucket" of boater safety supplies sold at Canadian Tire is a good choice. I believe the fine is $250 for no card, and $200 for each safety item!

Unhappy

As if the C.O. don't have enough to do.

Most boating accidents are caused by Stupidity or drinking.

Thats why we need the boat license. It stops all drinking in a boat and stupidity just like gun reg stopped all violent gun related deaths.
Cmon now, get with the program

Talking

Yep! I agree "but if it save one life" (Wendy Cuiker quote)
I haven't figured out how it saves a life. Might prolong a life, but save a life not, because every living thing is going to die some time.

Just another plot to get more money , soon we,ll need a lic to walk on a sidewalk or use a craphouse.
Been driving my 12 foot boat for 50 years , now all of a sudden l have to pay the Govt 60 bucks to do it . also the bludy booklet that l have to study applys mostly to ocean craft.
Why the hell do l need to know that crap , l,ll never own a bludy yacht , this has to change , we need a different test for small boaters in the prairie provinces.
The kid that races around full a beer or the 15 year old that just likes to be an idiot on them seadoos will get their lic and still do the same.

Meatpole,

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!

The thing I love, to when I had my shair of ocean boats, 99% of the time it was rental Jack@$$'s that where the problem. So one day I walked in to the boat rental and asked them, what they do for people renting boats. They said oh we just give them a 5minute talk then off they go!

Then only to see them cut in front of a BC Ferries!

I haven't give up on power boats, I like my pontoon boat that I can drift around the water on!

I never had to pay the government anything for the operators card. I challenged the test, which was done by a private company at the Vancouver Boat Show a few years back. I think I had to pay them $ 25-30 or something to do it, and my card was sent to me three weeks later.

At least it's good for life, unlike the PAL..seems goofy to have to keep renewing that every five years.. it should be free after the initial payment.

Well finally broke down and did the test only been a boat owners for 35 years as big as a 28 centerline comand bridge express cruiser down to a 7 1/2 ft row boat -- I got it for my jet ski which is a whole ten feet long but goes like stink lol 60mph and gee a 16 year old is allowed to operate one -- go figure.

O yea I am a failure on the test only got 91% so I guess I will just kill 9% of the people out there. They didn't tell me which ones I got wrong so I guess I am in the clear if I kill someone doing what I got wrong on the test RIGHT??

Maybe it was the one about watersking at night while drinking and poping oxycodine for my leg.

Took the test yesterday

Well, took the test yesterday and got 93%, read the book for an hour then took the test online. Had to write it at the neighbors (Rules of taking online).

Over my years of boating ive seen more idiots than I can count, this may weed some out cause they are to lazy to take course. Other than that its common sense. Someone told me yesterday this even applies to electric motors so I bit the bullet and took it.

I googled dicount codes and found this one :BX77T97Y8 gave me 10$ off.

Red face

I think the boating lic is a farce, or a make work project or maybe a secondary industry. I went to write at Kamloops gun show a few years and decided not to because the instructor was giving out the answers. Don't need it for my canoe yet!
