Bowie Commemorative Elk Handled Knife

Just got this baby finished up

The father of a buddy of mine at work lives in Scotland and is really into the history of the American west,including all the greats like Davey Crockett, Jim Bowie and all the great western actors like John Wayne and others.
He talked about making a larger Bowie style to give to his father as a gift when he travels out there in May. This is somewhat of a departure for me as I am not really into making knives for display nor ones as large as this.
I am a believer in saying a knife is a tool and a tool needs to be used.

That being said I went ahead and made it anyways

so here it is

steel is 3/16" satin finished 440C
overall length is 16 1/2 "
blade is 10 1/2 " long and 1 7/8" at the widwest point
it has a false edge on the top 5 inches of the blade and a brass bolster
Handle is elk antler with base button sanded, shaped and restained fo consistency.

I am working on a leather for it but it will be for cosmetic appeal as this knife is destined to be mounted on a plaque for display in a basement bar.
I have obtained a really nice piece of red oak for the plaque and will hopefully be able to post a finished product before it travels overseas.
