Elimination of long gun registry.

So where do things currently sit with the long gun registration?

Has all hopes of this being eliminated died, unless the Conservatives can form a majority government? There was a lot of support given to the Conservatives because of their stance on eliminating the registration. I wonder if the fact that it still exists all theses years later, may have some voters now looking in a different direction.

By the way, the amnesty for registering firearms not previously registered, runs out May 16th 2011.

The amnesty has been extended again to 2012.

There is still hope if the Conservatives can get a majority in the next election. Our only hope is if they do get rid of it, there can be a way to not bring it back in if the libs win one later on.

Torys

l see the Torys are pulling the wool over your eyes again , Harpers going on about a $50,000 figure couples can split incomes to reduce taxes , yeaaa right ,only problem is it wont happen for 5 years , haaaaaaaaa , isnt that about the time for the next election , haaaaaaaaaa , what a joke thease conservatives are.
Now on the other hand , Layton wants to clamp down on thease bludy credit card suppliers , now theres something that needs to be done , good for you Jack , and he says he will implement it now , not in 2015 , even the liberals are going to give us some goodies , effective imediatatly , not in 2015.
Now why on earth would you vote for a bludy conservative , when every thing they promise is 5 years from now , that just so you,ll put them in again.

I will vote conservative again, in spite of still having a bad taste in my mouth from the Mulroney era..I hated that guy with a passion!

One of the main reasons would be is the other two major parties are both working towards restricting personal firearm ownership. I feel that is reason enough not to cast my vote in another direction, regardless of what the other parties promise. The liberals and the NDP, are the ones we can thank for implementing firearms restrictions, and the huge expense that came with them.

Besides, how many election promises have been made, that have never been kept? The list is very, very long..
The replacing of the GST was one the (93 campaign), liberals big promises, (Chretien), but nope that never happened once elected. (Least the conservatives reduced it to 5% from 7%!) Making some major changes to NAFTA, that would really benefit Canada rather than the US, was another liberal promise..(again Chretien)..nope never happened.

At least with the conservatives, I feel the West has been finally recognized, which I never felt with the liberals.
The fact that Canada has done as well as it has economically, during the last few very tough years, is another sign that the Harper clan is doing something right. If it wasn't for this worldwide economic downturn, just imagine how far ahead we would have been with him steering the ship.
Imagine if the NDP had been steering the ship when all the crap went down..we'd be shipwrecked by now and all sitting in leaky lifeboats.

I hate the liberals choice of leaders. Ignatieff for some reason, I feel is simply out to gain something personally from getting his hands on the reins. Perhaps it's just to add another "credit" to his personal history, of which so far has been limited to academia, and writing books. He certainly has led a personal life far different than the average Canadian, so I doubt he really has any idea what it's really like for an "average family". He may well turn out to be a little more "left leaning" than people think he would. All those years of being an educator must have had an effect on him..
Higher taxes would soon be initiated as well if the liberals took power..and I hate paying more taxes.. Beware of this guy, I'm afraid he could dig us into a hole, we could never get out of..

Jack Layton on the surface, (although somewhat flakey), seems like a nice enough fellow. The NDP does have some good ideas, and ideals, but the cost to implement them would tax us into poverty..Of course at that point we could finally take advantage of their many promised social programs..lol
I also fear he would be a victim of puppeteers if he gained power. You need a very strong personality to lead, rather than to follow, and I just don't think he has the strength overall.

Now Harper I admit, has never come across as Mr. Personality, but he has been placed in a position to take care of the business of running the country, not kissing baby's. Harper also has the respect of other world leaders, which can go a very long way in keeping Canada recognized as a leader, not a follower. There are many benefits from this recognition.
Yes, he's had his bobbles, but overall under the very trying economic circumstances, he's been doing pretty darn good!

JMHO..

I'll vote for the conservative for the simple reason, of their promise to deep six the long gun registry and the conservatives are not promising to ban hand guns.
