Good first rifle

I was just wondering what people think would be a good first rifle for me. I am around 100 pounds(give or take a few), I have shot a few guns before, mostly a .22 and a 12 gauge. I was kind of thinking about a 30-30 or a 30-06, I would mostly be using it for deer and would probably end up moving on to something a bit bigger.

Thanks for any help

A 7mm-08 would be a great choice or a 25-06. Very low recoil and if you wanted to shoot bigger later go to a 300 or 338..

If you bought the 3006 you would not need any thing bigger, with the new bullets out in factory amd handloads everything would be covered. Then you could practice and practice until you felt you needed a change or just wanted a diff cal. for what ever reasons

I started out with a 270 and until about 5 years ago didnt have anything bigger with money burning a hole in my pocket I bought a Ruger SS 338 and then a old 722 Rem 222 because I use one as a Kid

With Barnes TTSX and Nolser ETIPS on the market hunters have a whole new way to experence shooting lighter faster bullets that stay to gether and expand in a contol way.

Good luck on what you dicide on !

Larry

I would stay away from the 30-30, which leaves the 30.06. The 30.06 will handle most game in North America. If you don't handload it's a good opportunity to start. You weigh 100lbs. and the recoil might be a little much. Don't be price driven in your search, buy a quality rifle and good optics and you will be set for life. Good luck in your search.

You will do fine with anything from 7x57,7-08,270, 280, 30-06.
Under practical hunting conditions and ranges there is very little diffrence between them
