Google Earth

Is there a way to tell or find out when the pics on Google Earth were taken?

I don't know if you can get an accurate date, but you will usually see a date at the bottom of the page, that will give you a copyright year, that will give you an idea.

Google Earth

From the Google Earth Help Center.
Top 5 Questions.
How old is your Satellite imagery?
Most is approximatly 1 to 3 years old.

The best you can do is make sure you have the latest version downloaded. The latest is V 4.3.7.204.0836 (beta). April 24,2008.
Bruce.

from my exprerience, about 3 yrs old. I know this by viewing a known land object visible (in this case, a subdivision). I know the date it was built (it shows up tan in color as opposed to green). you may be even to view fields of various crops planted, corn shows green, versus wheat (we rotate in Ontario). Hope this helps.
