Treble hooks legal in lakes?
Hi all, moved to BC last year, and looking forward to doing some fishing here.
While I was looking through the regulations, I see that for steams a "single barbless hook" must be used. I couldn't find anything about lakes though. Are treble hooks legal in lakes in BC? Only reason I ask, is that is what most of my lures are wearing. Do I need to go through my tackle boxes and modify them all for fishing all waters in BC or am I good to go in lakes, just not streams? Thanks. |

I will give you my opinion on this one. spend the time to change out any treble and long shanked Snell hooks from all your spinners, spoons etc. Even the singles on most lures are horrible for damaging fish. Trebles speak for themselves when damaging fish is considered and the long shanks of the single hooks used often wind up deep in the throat of the fish. There is truly NO reason to need a barbed hook yet alone a treble.
It may be legal, but IMHO unethical in every way possible to use the hooks that are supplied on today's lures. Short stout OWNER's, GAMAGATSU's, DNE's, are easily put on any lure with a tiny split ring available at most shops for about a 1.50 per 15-25 or so.
