Question Wasn't the boating exam supposed to teach folks safety.

I saw this on another site, when I took the exam I had not owned my own boat for over 20 or more years, but I still would have not have had to ask these questions, especially when the poster says they have experience with the lake and what can happen with it, so is this an example of the test just being a farce and not teaching what is needed?

"haha,
bought my first boat last year. Not my dream boat by it was a good deal and a good start.

It a 14.5' fiberglass with a 80hp Merc. I have a little 7.5 kicker for it too.

So here are my questions:

I have fished Quesnel Lake a lot in the past, however never on a boat this small. I am well versed in the temperamental moods of this lake and am wondering if my boat is suitable. I sort of figured that as long as I kept an eye on the horizon and stayed out of the east arm I should be okay. Any thoughts?

Second question:

My old truck had a proper tow package on it. My new truck doesn't have the frame mounted receiver, only the bumper style. I think its rated to 5000lbs trailer weight (500Lbs tongue weight). Is that a crock? I'm going to pick up a proper receiver when one comes up at the wreckers but in the meantime will this work?

Thanks in advance for any replies!"

I dont see any reason that boat would not hold out to most situations on Quesnel lake. I grew up in Prince Rupert and spent a lot of time on the outside on the Hecate straights in a 14 ft open aluminum with no problems. But then i was a kid and probably not to smart but hey never got into trouble.

Quesnel can be a very dangerous lake if you are not very carefull. The wind can come up very fast and the water can go from dead calm to 4 foot standing waves in a heartbeat. There is a LOT of equipment on the bottom of that lake!

Stay fairly close to shore and always keep an eye open and you should be OK. You should also be prepared to spend an extended period of time waiting out a storm sitting on the shore - if you can find a place to beach - if things go sideways.

And that lake is very deep, very very deep, one of the deepest in the world.
