Both for me. I use light carbons for 3D, since distance estimation is critical and I want as flat a trajectory as possible. For target shooting at known distances and hunting (where I use a range finder), arrow speed isn't so critical and a heavier arrow will give a little more kinetic energy. My aluminums travel about 230 ft/sec and my carbons about 275.

Both for me as well. I have a 5 pin set-up and shoot carbons to 60 yrds and the aluminums to 50 yrds .
www.bowjackson.com has some great calculators for arrow weights and energy. Dave |

I have never used aluminum arrows but am pretty happy with my Gold Tip Hunter's for both 3D and hunting....with a 100 gr. tip they are 400 grains on the nose which gives me an arrow shooting 286 ft/s and a KE of around 76 which is lots for even the biggest game.
