First weekend...

I managed to sneak out for opening weekend of bow season. Had a few good stalks, but haven't pulled the pin yet... The deer look very healthy this year with twins surviving being the norm. Anyone else been out bugling or chasing deer???

Steep,

Check out my post on the main board Serengeti of the north. Managed to bugle in one bull but the wind ended up screwing up that opportunity. Great pic of you at full draw....hopefully you can get a elk with the bow this year. I may try for deer this weekend if time permits.

Nice pic, steep. Glad you're having fun out there. I've only made it out once for the early archery and saw a fair number of deer. Had 3 bucks working their way straight to me (75 yd) and the rifle shots from an early youth hunt on the other side of the ridge sent them all scattering. Lots more time yet.

Post Elk Hunt

Made it out twice.
the first time I called in a raghorn {not legal in Alberta} he hung around for a couple of minutes , pretty comical seing how he reacted to the montana elk decoys I had set out,the Last 2 day trip was wet and when I finaly got a bull bugeling and answering my cow calls on the last evening out a pack of wolves sounded of not more than 200 yds away and shut him up good.
Oh well thats why its called Huntin an not just killin *LOL* but as Arnie says Aaahll Bee Bahck. saw lots of deer and 3 b/bears one was a nice red brown phase decent size too.
Later Peoples.

Moose talker if you were hunting Archery isn't pretty much every Elk open?
Even the Wainwright area thats opened up so much more for Elk. In the 6 point draw zone for rifle you should be able shoot spikers with a bow i thought.

I met Brent Kuntz, the fella that shot the new record book Elk that way about 3 years ago. He also took a nice 6 point last year there and is out right now chasing them again.
When they field dressed the 6 point they removed an old arrow and broadhead against the inside of the upper rib cage.

Bairdo - Great hunt and sounds like an amazing area!

Canuck2 - I know 2 yutes that got whiteys that weekend over your way. Good to see them getting out! Lotsa time...

Moosetalker - I have one of the same decoys and had it out when I got my bull last year... I never gave him a chance to check it out though...

Good luck & post those stories as I won't be getting out much more and will need my fix!

Kirby,

Some great videos on hunting elk with the bow are by Glen Berry...I think they are called Hot Bulls 2000 and ?, he also does a good bit on calling techniques, etc. on these videos. Wayne Carlton's video on elk calling/hunting is also excellent.
