School Club Up And Running
Well, we got the target butts indoors last weekend and have started shooting. Actually we had our first night Monday and were out there again tonight. Prior to that, the butts were outdoors and it was becoming almost impossible to get any shooting time after school before dark, let alone it was darn cold.
I have a core of about half a dozen students who got some experience under their belts last year. None of them had shot to any degree before that and nobody had any equipment. By last spring, one of the boys participated in several 3D shoots and even went in the B.C. Summer Games. At this point, 5 have their own gear and they'reall frothing at the mouth to get shooting. By next spring, I think several of them will be heading to the 3D's. Our indoor facility is the local gun club indoor .22 range, and there are a few modifications required yet. Lighting is not the best and we also have to rig up a system so that the firearms shooting stations can be moved out of the way and back again easily. But, hey, these are minor obstacles for the benefits of having an indoor range in the winter. Now that we are under way, we will be conscripting more students who want to get into archery. This is the way we started last year; about 15 showed initial interest and we ended up with about half that in the end. This year, I think the initial response will be even higher. So, are there any other high school clubs out there? Is anyone out there contemplating trying to get something going like this? Most of these kids don't participate in the regular school team sports but sure have found a satisfying niche in archery; and most of them are getting turned on to hunting as well, rather an uncommon situation these days. **Email or PM me if you are interested and have any questions. I'll be happy to help you get started.** BTW, the boy who went to the summer games also got a buck with his bow this year.

WELL DONE JACK!!!
As in anything the kids are the future, the more we can get involved the better. Our clubs J.O.P. program really seems to be taking off here. I believe we are now up to 38 kids with more signing up all the time. It's getting to the point where we are going to have to find a new place to shoot, as our indoor facility is just too small. Anyway, keep up the good work and you'll have more kids than you can handle in no time!! Chris

Good on you Jack. I have not been to the school yet but I am sure there will be a few students shooting.
As I said in a previous post if you are interested in archery it is best to get the basics from a certified instructor and not learn other peoples bad habits.
