String Loops

I am toying with the idea of going to a string loop. I am wondering how it would work in a hunting situation. Any input would be appreciated.

My 2 cents, the string loop helps in many ways, some help line up peeps, they help with the wear on your string, they put equal pressure on the top and bottom of your nock, as for hunting situation, it's what you are use to.

I find them fine for 3-d but not really necessary and to no advantage. In a hunting situation I find them to be just another thing you have to put an effort into finding when you should just grab the string with your release and shoot. I find they are always right there to grab except when your in a hurry you can never seem to get a hold of the damn thing with your release. The loop makes draw length different by a almost a half inch too. I tried em' but don't got no use for them.

string loop

walksalot . I have used them for years in 3d & hunting I have never had a problem with them . I had the serving blow on a hunt and did not have the tool with me . the flight of the arrow changed so much I could not shoot .
I went to the loop after that. I have never worn one out . I only replace them as I replace the string & cables on the bow . It did take a little time to get use to .

I haven't found them to be any more accurate and they cost you 1/2" draw length which translates into valuable extra KE for hunting! As far as serving goes I do all my own and haven't had a serving wear out before the string was replaced so no problems there. Having said that, I do shoot a loop on 2 of my bows simply because they are not made to anymore than 30" draw and I am 31" draw, so the loop just makes it a little more comfortable for me, no other reason I would use one.

I switched to a loop several years ago, and I have never had a problem, I use it for hunting, 3-d, and target, always, in willyqbcs point you do lose 1/2" draw, I didn't because I just changed my anchor point to a new point with I actually prefered over my old one. However, I have never had a problem with my loop, and recomend trying it, if you like it great, if not, lots of time till hunting season so you can change back.

I started out /w string loop but didn't like the lost 1/2" draw either.

Then I heard a hunting story where a hunting bud lost a chance on a buck because he was having a hard time finding the loop /w his release......

So I took the loop off & didn't find any difference in my groups.

I can easily find my main /w the release now without actually looking.

I've never used a release without having a string loop; just happened to start that way when I switched from fingers. I certainly have no KE or speed issues, so the 1/2 inch or so of draw length isn't a factor. And when hunting, I haven't had a hard time finding the loop, except in the dark, which probably doesn't matter that much.

On the other hand, I have seen serving come apart at critical times where guys have hooked up directly to it. Certainly to connect directly to the string without serving is a recipe for disaster. Also, you get more equal pressure on the calipers all around where a loop is used, whereas the angle of the string makes for more contact on the upper part of the jaw and less on the lower side if used directly on the string. This MAY have some consequences, including accuracy issues and more focussed wear points on the serving. Whether there is a big-deal difference, I don't know. But if it's good for the head, do it.

Chalk up a vote in favour of loops.

Thanks for the input guys.
As far as serving goes I have been using this new braided fishing line and so far have been very pleased with it. It is very tough stuff.
