Target Question

i am sorta carrying on rookiehunter's thread about what kind of target to use. i don't have the money for a new target right now so i need a sub. i read about the plastic bag thing. i was recently told that i could frame 6 in. of cardboard an put a target on that. would that stop the arrows or would it wreck them?

Cardboard does stop arrows, but not really well. Problem is that arrows quickly punch through it, need to keep replacing it. Without a doubt the best targets are Burlap bags, stuffed with plastic. I've had these targets, and shot thousands of arrows into it. I find that the burlap over time does get destroyed, but at 1 or 2 bucks a bag(from feed stores), and free plastic(from grocery stores) pretty cheap targets.

Ill second Kirby, burlap and plastic is the most economical choice around.

not very tight. It doesn't need to be crammed in there, just fill it up, push down, fill any extra room that shows up.
Its really amazing how well it stops arrows. I was cranking out arrows at 310+ fps as was a good friend, and in 2 years of hard practice we only had to replace the plastic once.

Burlap sack or frame wraped in bulap and filled with shrink wrap. All pallets of goods delivered to Safeway and overwaity etc are warped with heavy duty saranwarp type of plastic. They are happy to give it away. Stuff your target and it will stop anything with a field point. My brother and I have a 3D walk through coures with 11 targets. It cost us nothing but our time.

Have fun.

I recently picked up four burlaps sacks to put together some targets. I have not pick up any plastic yet but I stuffed one of my bags with the contents of a worn out bag target. This is a great way to easily salvage an old/worn out target. I just removed the tarp covering and restuffed the burlap with the fire blanket style material. In addition, I was going to attach a read fabric target to the burlap bag but all I had was an old red shoestring. The following is a picture of the target
