Whitetail in the cooler

With the rut seeming to be under way, I've seen several bucks in the last 2 days in the company of/looking for does. I surprised this one this morning with a couple of his girl friends. Surprisingly, he has quite a scent to him.

I was trying to stalk him and actually didn't even have decent cover. But he decided to walk toward me and I just stood my ground. With no movement, he failed to notice me and stood broadside at 22 yards. Doubled lunged him and he made it only 45 yards.

I'm still trying to figure out the settings on my camera. It looks like a night photo but it was taken about 9:00 this morning using the flash.

Thanks guys; it was exciting. For every whitetail you get close enough to on the ground, 20 others bust you. But that helps extend my hunting season.

FreshTracks, this is close to my biggest with a bow. I've shot a couple others similar but most have been smaller. Good weather here in the valley; snow at the higher elevations. Feels cool tonight and kind of like snow. We'll see.

Way to go Canuck 2....don't know if I'll take my bow or the rifle whitey hunting but have never got one yet so might start with the firestick and work my way up to the stick chucker.

Nice buck! Looks like a really nice double lunger from the picture. Way to go.

I arrowed a little blacktail last weekend that was peeking at me from around a tree. All I had was a neck shot and as I am quite confident with my bow thanks to lots of practice, I took him through the neck at 12 yds. The 2" cutting diameter of the mechanical took over from there.

Very nice buck.
This mightbe my first year bow hunting. I'll see how it goes. I've been a little pre-occupied with my new muzzleloader this year!
There are a lot of opportunities around here for me and my bow, so I've just got to get out there and DO it!!
Thanks for sharing your buck, Canuck2. You'll be my motivation!

Bairdo, I still use my trustworthy old rifle from time to time, but really have a ball with the bow.

Way to go on the blacktail, wolf. Any pictures?

Artemis, after your successes with rifle and ml the last couple years, the deer will be shaking in their boots no matter what you hunt with. By all means, get that bow out.

Thumbs up

Nice looking buck. I'm only a fire stick guy right now but I'll practice with my crossbow at the range and hopefully get to use it soon.

Cheers.

What did you get, Greg, whitetail or mule deer? Good going, and let's see the picture.
