Are you ready for the season?

Well, lots of places in B.C. will be open for archery in just over a month. Is everyone still focused on fishing and water sports, or have you been getting the archery gear out and been practicing?

Anyone here use a tree stand? I've done so a few times but prefer the freedom of being on the ground. How about broadheads - fixed, mechanical, all sharpened up, tried them to see if they impact where your field points hit?

How about scouting? I see a number of hunters on here have great photos of the game in places they frequent. The bone will be hardening up pretty soon and I've seen a few dandies. My biggest problem is I just heard my favorite exclusive hunting property has been sold, so I have to work that one out.

What else have you done/do you need to do to get ready?

Just continuing with daily practice. Aug 13-14 we're having a 2 day hunter warm up shoot here in Quesnel. This is just a fun shoot to get ready for season, any equipment you want to use is allowed including rangefinders, and you can shoot from as far or as close as you want. After that is over I will recheck my B-heads, give them another sharpening and I'll be ready to rock!
Scouting frequency will start to pick up in the next month, I have a couple areas that i hunt pretty steady and I pretty much know how the game moves in these areas so the scouting is pretty much just for fun!

Good luck to all this season!
Chris

I am ready, know my game, know my spots, now if my new string would just arrive so I can start shooting seriously again I'd be happy as a pig in mud. Oh well, suppose to be here on Tuesday.

I was hoping to do some bowhunting this fall.. however because of my move out of Alberta and into Sask.. I am screwed... need to be a res in SK for 3 months first, and to prove that they want your SK health card.. I prob won't get that for another 2 months yet..

Oh well I can at least rifle hunt in Nov, plus I have a antlered mulie to go after in AB.

Have been focussing on my Grizz/Sheep hunt so haven't done a lot of shooting but am looking forward to trying for a moose with the bow this year (called several into bow range last Oct. but didn't have the LEH to go with it) and I have a mulie doe so hopefully I will bag that with the bow! And of course on the weekends when I'm not out of town I'll be chasing the elusive Fraser Valley blacktails. Good luck to all in the early season deer and elk hunts!!!!

As for equipment I have my PSE Avenger (old bow but still kills em dead) set at 63lbs. and it is flinging my GoldTip5575's at 284 ft/sec with 100gr thunderhead broadheads. So far this combo has proven to be very leathel on all of the animals I have shot.....one arrow one kill.

Here's to everyone having a safe and successful hunting season....I look forward to all your pics.

Ian

My brother in law and I have been pounding the decoys for the last few weeks getting back up to speed with our bows and distance judging. We are lucky to have the property to practice on and have a couple throwback decoys from the Malahat Fish and Game Club to shoot at. We move them around and shoot from all the possible angles under field condiations so the prqctice is very beneficial for us. I need more hours in the day though becasue the fishing has been really picking up around here lately and it's a constant jugling act with the time management thing.

Good luck to you guys and gals!!!!
