Smile .280 rem?

I am thinking of buying the Nef handi rifle in this calibre. Does anyone have any experience with this calibre? This gun comes with a 26 inch barrel which appeals to me most.(a little extra velocity) And the price-$280 can. How can you go wrong? How is the accuracy? The barrel looks quite a bit thicker than a Savage, Ruger, or Weatherby, which would add to the accuracy. Any thoughts? Tx!

I can't comment on the NEF...never shot one, but you can't go wrong with the 280 Rem.

Excellent balance of recoil, trajectory, and downrange energy....the 280 Rem is a great round....it's what the 270 wishes it were, and the 30-06 knows it can't be

Apparently even Jack Oconnor was said to have admitted that the 280 Rem is superior to the 270 win.Now that's an endorsement

7 mag

Buy a 7 Mag because that's what a 280 or 280AI always wanted to be but never could.(Unless your too strapped for money that you can't use a few grains of extra powder or have jello for a shoulder)... Couldn't resist !!!!

Im not exactly a balistics freak. Maybe someone could explain to me why a .280 is better, or any different than a .270??? Its the same case, is it not?

Diameter Weight Ballistics Coefficient Sectional Density
.277" 140 gr. 0.495 0.261

Diameter Weight Ballistics Coefficient Sectional Density
.284" 139 gr. 0.486 0.246

actually for the same weight bullet the BC is Better on the .277 but i think the difference is negligable

Ok, like i said, im not a ballistics-ammo junky! Aside from all those lil decimal numbers which looked very close, What the heck is the real diff between a .270 and a .280. i know the .280 will be a tiny, tiny bit fatter slug, but if using the same gr. bullet, and the same powder behind it, is there any difference in trajectory or killing power?????????????? English please!

no animal will shrug off a properly placed shot with either round. 280 gives the handloader more options, the 270 has more factory ammo options. Nice thing about the 280 is you can load up to 175 grainers, 270 is limited to 160 grain for handloading. I'll take one of each
