300 win mag

I am looking for suggestions for my tikka 300 win mag. I am loading accubonds in 165gn but am a little confused with all the info out there as to powder and primer. There doesn't seem to be any consistency in the info in books or on the web. Any one else load for 300 win mag in 165 accubonds?

I shot a 165gr baltip in a 300WM with success on mule deer with that load.Basically the exact same bullet as the AB without the bonding.I tried IMR 4350,4831 and 7828 with win brass and fed 215 primers with all loads. The best accuracy I got came from the nosler manual which I was following for info.
76gr of IMR 7828 was an accurate load for a T3 hunter.A remy 700 BDL SS in 300 WM shot accurately with 75gr of the same powder.Get your self some data from Nosler.com and start low and work up with all the mentioned powders.RB

300wm

I use 180gr AB's but have some 165's but never reloaded for it yet. I use RL-22 powder with Fedral 215 primers (74.0gr of RL22 I believe was my best group - under 1/2" for 5 shot group.) I have the new Nosler manual (#6), and I'll look tonite for you what they say for 165gr AB's.

I'm like MP, I use a 180 grain nosler partition, (although I'm switching to barnes TSX because the noslers almost always lose the front end) with 76 grains of RL-22 and winchester primers. It gives me almost 3150 fps with a 26 inch barrel and pretty good accuracy. Don't think I would use a lighter bullet for the 300 win mag.

Reload Info for 300WM

As promised, from the Nosler Reload Manual #6 (new one) for 165gr Accubonds with common used powders: (using Federal 215 Mag Primers)

H414: Start: 65.0 @ 2990ft/s(most accurate load)
Max: 69.0 @ 3140

RL19: Start: 71.0 @ 2982 ft/s (most accurate load and powder tested)
Max: 75.0 @ 3192

7828: Start: 76.0 @ 3022 ft/s (most accurate load tested)
Max: 80.0 @ 3192

RL22: Start: 75.0 @ 3110 ft/s (most accurate load tested)
Max: 79.0 @ 3290

There are more listed such as 4350, 4831 but I thought these I listed are enough.

I use RL22 for my 300WM as this was the most accurate powder tested in the last manual for the reloads and usually the best performer for most reloaders with 300WM using 180gr bullets.

Don't be scared to try IMR4350 and IMR4831. My A-bolt does not like R22 for whatever reason, but it loves the IMR stuff. Go Figure.

I used 72 grains of IMR 4831 with Fed 215 primers, stuffed a 180 NOSLER Ballistic tip in the end...AWESOME ! !Then I tried the 165 Nos/Bal/tips...."SHAZZAM"...The same POI.How KOOL was that ! !...Oh YEAH...This was ALSO in a Browning,A-Bolt Hunter....26"BBL. She would shoot 3/4 " groups till the cows come home ! !

For the big 300WM Im a fan of the heavier bullets. I use a 200gr. SPBT and H1000 or 4831sc for hunting and Im having good results with the 208gr. A-max for target. I find the bigger bullets carry flatter and farther than the little guys. If someone came out with a 220gr. SPBT Id be using that.

Nothing wrong with that. Im assuming thats at 100yds. If you want you can do some groups with 1/2 a grain either way now then play a bit with your seating depth.

Yes its at 100yds but i cant play with seating depth as my clip restricts that. I'm pretty satisfied with what i have. I will load some more to ensure consistency. Just have to finish painting the house lol.......

Thats very pretty. I know you'll be a lot happier with the heavier bullets than the light ones. I find less tissue damage and a much farther effective range. Plus the harder hitting power is a lot more noticable on bigger game like moose. With 165's they tend to go a bit farther into the bush after being hit. With the 200gr. spbt's I been using they either drop in they're tracks of go 20yds at most.
