45 grains of RL15 and a 165 gr Hornady Interbond does 2670 fps average and good accuracy in my friends Model Seven stainless 308. Id back off to 43 grains and work up using the Accubond. RL15 is a great powder for the 308, as is Varget.

A few years ago I was working up a load for my brother’s .308, using 165 gr. Nosler ballistic tips. I settled on 45 grains of Reloder 15, gave good accuracy, no signs of excess pressure, I’ll try to dig up the chrony results. I think around 2600 fps, 22” barrel. As 260 says, I’d back off a bit to start, though. My Nosler manual shows 44 grains as max. for the 165 ballistic tip (2820 fps with 24" barrel), it was published “pre-accubond”.
Orangethunder, do you use one of the Reloders for your .280? Just curious, as I have had very good results with Reloder 22 in my .270, with 24” barrel. |

I too like the Reloder line of powders but in the 308 Winchester you should also try IMR 4064.
43.5 grains of IMR 4064 lit with a CCI 200 primer in a Norma case under a 165 grain Partition for 2600 fps is the "do-it-all" load I put together for my daughter's 308. |
