disassembly help needed

I have a Stevens 12 gauge pump that has a gummed up firing pin. Sometimes it thumps the primer hard enough and other times not so hard. It is probably 30-40 years old. When I bought it years ago, my gunsmith said it was a "slam loader model" so it will fire when the fore piece is slide forward if the trigger is held down. He said that action was called a "Trench Broom" cause of it's effect in the trenches in the first war. Just need some basic guidelines to take this sucker apart. Any "don't do's"? Thanks

Don

Book

Sorry I can't help you further Don, but this book might if your library has it.

I have the .22 rifle Volume and it covers most standard makes.

The Winchester Model 12 (at least early ones) and Ithaca Model 37 shotguns have no interruptor either allowing that slam fire. I think it was a manufacturing shortcut.

Thanks Michel. I'll try and find it or see if Wholesalesports has it.

Something that may help if you can locate one is the Gun Digest Book Of Exploded Firearms Drawings. I have a copy and I'm not sure when it was published but I've had it a long time. There are three just slightly different groups of Savage/Stevens pump shot guns illustrated.
1/ Savage model 30
Stevens model 77
Springfield model 67
2/ Savage models 30D, 30E, 30H, & 30T
3/ Savage models 30J, K, T & series A, B, & C
If you can't find a copy but if you can determine what model yours is and if you're stuck, I can scan the pages and e-mail them to you. Let me know.

gummed firing pin...

Don, when you ident. the Stevens/Savage and get the firing block out, boil some water and and using an old tooth brush with your fav. dishwashing soap scrub the parts, pour the hot water over them and scrub again, drain the container and pour more hot water over the metal parts..drain and remove parts to a cleaning towel for drying, the heat should assist in drying.. lubricate with your favourite lube.
This teq. works great on my Wingmaster bolt and trigger assemblies...

Thanks Ultra88 . I appreciate the advice. I am going to get into this thing next week. My 'puter has been down since the power outages here on the island so I haven't been able to visit my second home.
