Grizzly rounds for 7mm

Well unless something changes in the next while I will have to borrow a rifle adequete for grizzly bear for this spring....

I love the .270 but it will kill a grizzly however it may not STOP a coastal grizzly bear..and this doesnt just involve me but my hunting partner is counting on me also...

So Tim has offerred a 7mm rem mag Rueger....

So we were thinking (not my strong suit) about ammo...and we thought the NOSLER PARTITIONS IN 165 grain???? was a good choice..any thoughts???

Tim's other rifle is a .458??? safari caliber... and I will of course bring my Winchester defender with slugs as a backup..backup for the thick stuff IF ever needed,,,or we COULD bring Phil Zumbo as camerman and "gocheckinthe thickstuffifthatlargebearisstillaleive" person...

Any suggestions on the loading of the 7mm for grizzly, I anticipate most shots @100-200 yards...and the size being 700 pounds spring weight...

Thank you

Steven

Last time I chased grizzlies with a 7mmRemMag, I used Federal Premium factory loads featuring 175gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claws. I've had stem to stern pass-throughs on large moose with this load, so no heisitation to use it on grizzly. However the last time I drew a grizzly tag, I bought the .338Mag Ruger as it was (sort of) justifiable to my wife

I'll be packing my 7-08AI w/140gr TSX or my 280AI w/140gr TSX for grizz this spring.

I consider any of the following perfect grizz bullets from the 7Rem Mag, and can assure you they'll all bust bone and exit on most any angle:

140gr TSX

150gr TSX

160gr TSX

160gr Nosler Partition

Steve, I would also use my 7 mag. and 160 gr. Nosler partitions but then again I've been trying to get my wife to understand why I need a 375 Holland and Holland, or something along those lines, something that shoots big fat bullets, it's going to take a lot of convincing I think. Andy

160gr Triple Shock X Bullet

Well, that was a 160gr X bullet, but the TSX are cooler.

TSX
Interbond
Accubond.

Those three would be the top of my list

I will just parrot the others here.

TSX, Partition, Accubond, Interbond, Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, A-Frame, etc.

Any good "premium" bullet will work as long as it is put through the vitals.

BTW................ there is NOT a great deal of advantage using a 7mm Rem Mag rather than your .270.

Cool

If you decide to go with your .270 we can order some 140 grain Barnes TSX and work up a grizz load for your rifle.

I figure as a 220 grain semi-spitzer Partition from a '06 will pretty well go lengthwise through an moose it should do OK on a grizzly bear.

Steven, I just talked to someone who has more experience with both grizz and .270's than I do and he says to load you up with 160 grain Partitions as they will, in his words: "Kill anything that walks"

I would agree.....if you trust that 270, load it up with good premium bullets and go kill something.

If you dont trust it, then a TSX or NP from a 7Rem Mag would would well too...

Or just use an excuse to go buy a new .375 Ruger.....heh
