Hello from southern Alberta

New to the forum but it looks like a good read! Hope I can add. Last winter I came across a 257 roberts Ackley Improved. Got my brass(257 rob) and have fire formed 160 brass with 35gr H4895 and a 117 seira round nose. Now, what I was wondering if any one has done some loading for them with 100gr bullets as that is what I think would be good for deer and would fit nicely between an 85gr 243 load and a 130gr 270. I hope I can get 3000fps and according to my data should not be a problem. The rifle is an Interarms Mark X with a 22" barrel topped with an old bauch and lomb 4200 4-16x50. I don't know the twist and can't seem to be able to find out? Any help would be great.
Thanks

welcome to the forum
not too busy here at times but the people are pretty good

your twist rate for that caliber is probably 1 in 10 as is for most 257 cal

where in Southern Alberta are ya?

Thanks for the reply, 1 in 10 eh. At that speed they should stabalise no problem any how I guess. I'm haveing no trouble with it now with 100gr nosler btbt. Shot some today that I loaded and they grouped just under an inch at 100 yards. Thats at 3180fps average through the crony. Not bad for 49grs of 4350 considering a 25-06 takes 53grs and a 257 weatherby at 58grs for the same speed acording to the book.
I'm from Medicine Hat.

sounds good for your grouping
ya gotta watch sometimes and not go too speed crazy
kinda get a good compromise between speed and grouping
sounds like you are well on your way to a good load anyway

I have a new Tikka 25-06 that I have to work a load for

I am in Redcliff

Well what do ya know, we're neihbors. Your right about the speed thing for sure. I just want to check the top end right now. My 300 is backed off to 2800 and it's alot nicer to shoot. Kind of a sleeper 30-06. What grain of bullet will you start with for your 06? Maybe we'll have to meet up one afternoon at the range and burn some powder.

whenever I get some time from work most definately should do a powder burn
