Impressed with this load
I recently acquired a used Ruger #1 Light Sporter in .270 Win.
I haven't loaded for .270 Win. since about 1987, so my first loads were the old ones that I used with my old Ruger M77 56 gr. IMR 4831 Win brass (new) WLR primers I used Remington bulk 130 gr PSPCL bullets Bullets seated at 2.850" to the ogive. I took the Ruger and the Tikka T3 that my wife bought me for Valentine's Day this year and tried the loads. The load was faster over the chrony from the Ruger than the Tikka (2890 fps vs 2820 fps) Tikka target was 7 shots @ 100 meters. Ruger target was 3 shots @ 100 meters. Gary,
I've got a .308 that needs to draw some blood as well. (not to mention 2 30-06's that are just begging for some bush time. I haven't even fired the Husqvarna yet). I'll just have to flip a couple of coins to decide what to hunt with this fall. |

Oddly enough, Sniper, this is just about the same load as I used in my long departed new model 70 Featherweight. Mine was:
ww cases 56 gr. IMR 4831 130 sierra flatbase cci 250 primer I got roughly 2900 fps in that 22" barrel, sub 1" 5 shot groups, and made 14 consecutive one shot kills on Vancouver Island deer with that combo. Must have been mentally ill when I sold the rifle. |
