That particular mistake would be an easy one to make one if a shooter had both IMR 4831 and IMR 3031 on the reloading bench. Both jugs are the same colour - black with an orange label (or an orange can if older stock) - and the last 2 digits are the same. Someone flying on "auto-pilot" could easily screw up with disastrous results.


It is a good lesson on the necessity of paying 100% attention while reloading.

I had an acquaintance many years ago who not only destroyed his own rifle, but also two of his buddies' rifles when He inadvertently charged a bunch of 30-06 loads with IMR4227 instead of IMR4320. Fortunately, none of these guys were injured in the melee that followed. One rifle, a 760 Remington, blew the magazine out of the rifle so hard it imbedded itself partway into the ground!! Repeat: One can of powder on the bench at any one time. Regards, Eagleye.
