Looking for 223 Loads
Hey all... I am having a struggle getting my Savage Law Enforcement series 223 to shoot anything decent. Tried 45g Win factory loads (2" groups)
I loaded up some 40g & 55g Vmax (groups from 1.55" to over 3"!!  )My brother picked up some 65g Sierra game kings for me to try (man trying to get any decent 224 bullet around here is difficult) However I don't have a sierra manual handy. If anyone has a newer manul I would love to see min/max loads for the bullet with either Varget or IMR 4198 (what I have on hand, power is also a PIA to get here) Thanks in advance!

Varget loads
Hey T 111,
I finally got home and can check my load data. I'm shooting a Savage model 12 VLP (26"barrel) My load with Varget and 55 grain V-Max is: 26.0 grains CCI standard SR primer, WW brass (once fired and neck-sized) COAL with my loads is 2.310 (seated .010 off the lands in MY rifle) chronographs at 3185 fps. I'm getting pretty consistant groups (5 shot) of .75" - .90" Hornady handbook says 22.8 - 26.4 grains Start low, and work up carefully. sniper58 Last edited by sniper58; 05-31-2009 at 05:40 PM.
