Moose Rounds??

I have just bought a new Savage 116fxp3 30-06 sprfld and looking for opinions on a good round for moose hunting (retail shells, not handload). I've always like savage for their dependability and out of the box accuracy and their ability to customize with so many options. ( not the best but not the worst by no meens) I've had a Savage 30-30 passed down from my grandparents and it is an awsome rifle!! Anyway I needed a bigger caliber and like the technology behind the new Accutrigger so I have a 30-06 sprfld now (wanted a 300 win. mag. in this rifle type but there is none anywhere in the lowermainland from Vancouver to Hope that I could find and Savage says their next shipment to Canada won't be till late fall or early winter, way to late for my annual hunting trip!) So just looking for some recomendations on Moose hunting rounds and target shooting (sighting in) rounds. I'm going to sight in my scope at zero at 200 yards that way I can line up a moose anywhere from 100 yards to 250 yards and not think about it and still get within the 8 inch kill zone! So anyway thanks ahead of time!!

A 30-06 180gr.+ in your choice between Federal Fusion bonded, Federal Vital shock (premium bullet choices), Remington Core-lock Ultra Bonded, Winchesters supreme elite XP-3 bonded. There's a whole lot of choice out there.

Federal Premium, in the order of : 165 gr Triple Shock X, 180 gr Triple Shock X, 180 gr Accubond, 180 gr Partition, or Winchester Supreme 180 gr Accubond CT

good hunting

Most recommended them Based on the "Construction" of the bullets found within them......this is the Real difference between Factory Fodder.
Any "Premium" ammo from an '06 will dump a Moose on it's Ars....
Try a few different ones and settle on the one that you can shoot well.
Good Luck

I handload so I load it's Hornady Interbond 180s for the 30-06s. I know this is not very sexy but the impact velocity of the 30-06 180gr is going to be less than 2700,(factory muzzle velocity)the old heavy duty jacketed round nosed Cor-loc or Power-Points expansion window is wider than the pointed standard bullets. 2700 down to 1800,for the RNs,this compares very well with the bonded cores. Winchester P-Ps are cheap, too. But for distance, plus the cool factor, Federal Accubonds. Federal makes good ammo and the Nosler Accubond is accurate.

I shoot a model 53 Winchester 30.06 using Federal Premium or Classic Hi-Shok & they perform just fine for me, as well they don't break the bank. Try Canadian Tire, they run between 16 - 21 bucks a box. I tend to stick to the 165 0r 150 grain and am quite happy with them.

My old .30-06 (retired) put a lot of moose in the freezer with either Federal Classic 165gr BTSP loads or Federal Premium 180gr Nosler Partitions. My rifle shot tighter groups with the 165's and one bullet in the heart/lungs anchored moose with no problem. Boom/whack.....down

My Father-in-law aka 'Outlaw', loved 165's in his 06 as a combo round.
