Id probably reach for H4350 first if it was my gun

I load lighter bullets for a friend, Varget is the powder we use. (185 gr Barnes TSX).

250 gr Partitions c/w Norma MRP or IMR4350. Both work great for me.

Congratulations on buying the best big game caliber. A 225gr. Accubond with IMR4350 or H4350, WLR primer, works well. I've had great success in the past with regular 225gr. Hornady's as well, so don't be shy.

This year I may try some 210gr. Barnes TSX's, I think they may be my magic monster bull elk slayer load. Should be able to get 3000fps+ with a BC of .471

Cool, so Norma MRP, Varget, and 4350 in Hodgdon or IMR. 200-225 grain bullets the best for holding the energy ? Wanting to push this caliber to the limit. Was really seriously looking at remingtons Ultramag in the 338, but geez, seemed way over priced. Cheapest I found was around 1800 bucks. So went for the Win Mag.

a sleek 225 grainer will be the best bet for long range performance, the Nosler 225 Accubond would be my pick

btw you can pick up a Remington 700 in 338 Ultra for about $950

The only problem with the 225gr. Accubonds is that they are a really long which need to be seated deep. This restricts powder capacity, compressing loads and reducing the velocity by 100fps (around 2830fps) compared to other 225gr. bullets I load. I've tried a few different powders and got some H4831sc to try and see if it'll work.

Another thing to consider is the Accubond won't penetrate as far as a Partition. It mushrooms and peels right back down to the base creating a wider frontal area retaining about 60-65%. It does kill well though, even at a reduced velocity.

lets theoretically say you can only get within 100 fps of the speed of a 225 gr Partition, with an Accubond

due to its higher BC, by the time the bullet has crossed the 200 yard mark, it has surpassed the Partition by 70 fps. the gap widens at longer distances

I was getting Excellent accuracy from mine with 4831sc and the Nosler 225 Accubonds.........if I'd kept it I'd still be shooting those
Nothing on the Planet will shrug off a 225 Accubond from a 338

Thx everyone,

I've heard what spitzer just said before about certian types of ammo, and 260_Rem has a valid point about the BC for "energy" retention over long ranges.

Anyone have reviews on them Barnes X bullets ?

Hey BCWILL, at what range were your groupings ?

I load 185 Barnes TSX in my friends 338 win mag (used to be mine).

Varget is the powder I use and it shoots good, tried it at 200 meters the other day, and he could hit the paper, which is terrific for him...
