Partitions vs Accubonds

Quick question, my apologies if this has been beat to death already but I have to buy a box of shells today, I have always shot Federal premium 160 grain Nosler partitions through my 7 mag and have been very happy with them or I can buy a box of the same shells loaded with 160gr. Accubonds for about 20 bucks cheaper, so if I go with the Accubonds can I expect much of a change in the way they print and perform?. I gotta get into handloading.

I would stick with what you are already shooting... especially if you are short on time. Changing loads, even staying with the same weight of bullet can drasticly change POI. If you have time to check everything.. then you can go for it...

I've shot 200 gr accubonds and partitions out of my 300 ultra with about 3/4 of an inch differance in poi. But as toxic said I would shoot them first to find out.

The performance from the accubond, flight wise, should be slightly better then the partition. It is a boattail bullet, as well it has the very pointy ballistic tip, so the coeficient is better than the partition. As to performance game wise, the accubond should perform equal, or better than the partition.

The partition have the habit of losing the front "core" half of the bullet, with the front jacket peeling back almost flush with the tail of the bullet. As well they have a smaller frontal area, after the front core is lost. In other words the expansion isn't as great as the accubond. The partition was designed this way for deep penetration, and they do a good job of it. The Accubond should mushroom with a good frontal area, and retain a large portion of its original weight. Penetration should be very good as long as the core stays bonded to the jacket.

Prior to the Accubond, the Partition seemed to be many hunters choice for a big game bullet. More seem to be leaning to the Accubond recently, probably because of its flight characteristics. With good downrange accuracy, quick expansion, and a bonded core, it seems to have what most would want in a bullet.

I read Cariboos recent experience with his accubond and the deer, and as others on that thread suggested, it almost seems like there was a flaw with that particular bullet. Very odd how it performed in that case.
