The Rem 710 sucks

Further proof that the Remingotn Model 710 sucks does not need to be established, in my opinion..

I was att eh range yesterday, had a great day of workign up some loads.

Went back today to check a couple of things with other rifes and another shooter showed up with his Remington 710.

The 710 has been maligned for a long time. And IMHO, it is for just cause.

I have encountered 4 of these vile POS rifles over the last 2-3 years.

ALL of them haver been chance encounters at the range.

ALL of them have exhibited some problem.

DOn't feed correctly

DOnb't extract correctly

Bolt binds

Won't chamber FACTORY ammo properly

Bolt COMES OUT when a case is extracted!!

FOUR out of FOUR rifes have had soime sort of MALFUNCTION!!!

On the plus side these rifle s have been reasonably accurate. But who gives a crap about accuracy if yiour rife will not go BANG when you are aiming at a big deer?????????????

***Note that I have a personal preference to CRF rifles for big game hunitng, but I own 2-3 PF and at least one custom built on a 700 action. Teh CRF bias does not apply to my decision that the 710 is a POS**********

make that 5 for 5, as i second yer post!!! my buddy got into hunting and wanted a .300 mag, looked like a good deal. All the same problems you said, total piece of $#!%, waste of $600. remington should recall these guns and try to save their rep!

The 710 is Remingtons attempt to compete with the Savage , Stevens and Mossberg low end rifles. It is too bad that Remington botched the design and ended up with the Bic Lighter of the rifle world.

For anyone buying a "first" rifle I always suggest they get the help of an experienced shooter and purchase a used rifle - usually a Winchester M70, Remington 700 or Ruger 77. Some of the English rifles like BSA and European like Sako can sometimes be a great value for the dollar.

Agreed 100%!!

A well used quality firearm will still be FAR better than a brand new shiny 710!!

A good bolt action should be able to be used by you your whole life, passed on to your kids, and even grandkids. A 710 does not meet this criteria!!

A buddy of mine is very happy with the two he has. He has a 30-06 and a 375 H+H (Custom Shop), and both feed well, and shoot bugholes at the range.

He had a real run around getting the 375 H+H put together, as the custom shop thought he was kidding when he called to order it. However... they reluctantly built him one with no promises (even they have no faith in the 710 I guess) and it is THE first 375 H+H they ever assembled in the 710 (he did get a different scope for the H+H though, but is using the package scope on the '06).

He is used the 30-06 last fall on guided Dall's hunt in the NWT, and his 375 H+H on a beautiful spring grizz this year in the Yukon (guided). He is actually taking both rifles to Namibia this year, where he plans to hunt most of the plains game with the '06, and use the 375 H+H on his Eland and possibly Gemsbok and leopard (hoping to include Tanzania for Buff also if the booking agent gets that set up...375 H+H will be his go to rig).

That is the only exposure I've had to the 710's, and they have impressed me thus far, and I would not hesitate to own one if the budget forced me to.

Someone had a 375 H&H built on a 710?

Hope his bolt doesn't fall out or sieze when he goes to make that follow up on the buffalo!!

Stone Chaser, I have used the 710 exclusively for 5 yrs, and defended it always. No real problems, and took many game animals with that 30-06. In fact my one buddy liked mine so much he bought one too. Symon on here on huntshoot took his bear with it this spring. However, the problem I had with that bolt last year while hunting almost cost me a beautiful buck. I want better reliability now. If that deer was a little smarter and took off when he had the chance i would have not taken him.

Stonechaser,
Did your friend say why he chose the 710 to build his .375 on or own the 30-06 in 710? Obviously cost is not a factor if he is going on several guided hunts, so I'm just curious why he wouldnt shoot a 700 instead......Just curious if you know why he went with 710??
