Scope Problem...

OK, here's a question: after breaking in the barrel and sighting-in a barand enw Savage package gun (30-06 with DM mag), wondered why bullets were going everywhere..... till I noticed I could move the scope 1/4 inch back and forth. Seems the rings worked loose from the bases.

Is Loctite or something like that ok to use to keep this from working loose again?

Yes that is the proper way of setting the bases. Do however make sure you use BLUE loctite not red. If you use the red it will darn near require a cutting torch to remove later if necessary.

I bought a used rifle once that had the bases set with red loctite. Believe me you don't want to deal with that problem.

I had this happen to my 22-250.It would shoot one ragged hole at 100 yards. Then one day it was all over the place.I had used blue loctite on the bases but it broke down. Most likely due to oil on the threads?

your mounts would probably be adequate on a Daisy RedRider, buy some Leupold, Talley, Burris, or even *gag* Weavers

Ive seen a Savage package 270 Win that came out of the box missing the rear crossbolt on the ring to secure it to the base!

The package rifles IMO arent as big of a bargain as you'd think, if you consider you'll have to replace their shitty optics and mounts sooner than later anyways!

give it a season or two, hunting in wet & cold, then see how the no issue with the scope thing is going
