WBY. suggestions
I have loaded for most of the "Roy" cartridges over the past 38 years, the .300 is the easiest to make do what was originally claimed, well, almost! I would ONLY use a heavy-for-caliber, premium bullet for this round as that will get what it is capable of and be a truely superb choice for B.C. hunting.
I like IMR-7828 in this with 180 NPs or 200 NPs, both Swift A-Frames and TBBCs also do well. The best loads tend to be slightly compressed and use Mag. primers, the Nosler fifth edition gives IMR-7828, 80.5-84.5 grs. and H-1000, 85-89 grs. for about 3150 to 3200 fps-mv. Drop these about 2 grs. for the 200 NP, my choice and get about 3025-3050, I have seen a Grizzly FLATTENED by this load.
Do NOT use these powders in loads either lesser OR greater than given AND DO NOT let some "expert" who has handloaded for all of 6 months tell you that you can "get" 3300 fps-mv, yada, yada. IF, you use Swifts or TBBCs, drop the charges about teo grains, BUT, keep them slightly compressed to avoid secondary detonation.
A good man with a good .300 "Roy" and these loads can kill anything in North America with one well-placed shot and many serious hunters have done this. I would like to have a .300 WBY. and may trade into one someday, good luck,,hope this helps.
