100 Mile Lakes

Gonna hit the Cariboo this long weekend. Thinkin maybe Horse Lk. or Canim Lk. for a day. Want to give the downriggers a try. Any hints would be good as I haven't fished either lake.

I will be up at Horse lake for the long weekend, myself as for what to use this time of year anything.

Flatfish would work along with wedding ring and worms.

Where are you staying as Horse lake is 10miles long, big lake to fish..

Stayin in 70 Mile. Goin up on Thurs. & doin Big Bar one day, probably Watch one day & one of those other two the other day. Just don't know in which order yet. Never fished the bigger two lakes. Lookin for some heavier action. How deep is Horse? I'll be fishin with the reigning Lac La Hache derby champ, so the pressure is on!

I think the deepest part of Horse is somewhere around 160'.

I got pictures of my grandfather back in the day with 30lbs+ Lake Trout, there are some huge Burbot in the lake also.

Yupper there is Kok's in there, the hard part not knowing the lake is how and where to find them . Once you have found them stay on top as the action would be hard to beat.

Just wondering....

Big Bar has been pretty decent the last couple of weeks from what I've heard.
Sheridan is certainly doable. Never fished that one either. Is it deep?

I'm not sure that going deep on any of the lakes in the Cariboo is a good strategy this early in the year. The fish should be in the top 1/3 of the lake. I haven't fished lakers for years but we used to get them in Sask trolling big spoons up top in 10-15' of water. I imagine if you found the kokanee at horse the lakers would be sitting below them in the water column.

As for Sheridan, the lake is 100 feet in a few spots but most of the big boys will be crusing in 5-20 feet of water picking off scuds and chironimids, that's where the food is this time of year.

Admin, what you say makes good sense as the lakes haven't fully turned yet. What do you think about maybe trying a bucktail?

Big lake trout

I have been fishing and hunting that area for about 15 years, I have always used black flatfish ( the bigger the better) and go as deep as you can!. If your ooking for the rainbows try the shallows with a green nimph. Good luck and be careful as it gets really shallow at the far end of the lake. also you might want to drive the canim lake road to Mahhod lake , It is alot deeper and I have caught some pretty big lake trout out of there.
Cheers.Odie
