Hey this is Dylan I am from Alberta and have been ice fishing alot for rainbows brook trout and brown trout. I am having some troubles catching brook trout. Last time I went out to try and catch them I seen I 5-6lb trout he came around a bunch of times but just would not bite. Would any one know what to use for any trout when ice fishing thanks.

Is it legal to use dead minnows over there for bait? How about egg roe? What lure and bait have you been using? I used to ice-fish brookies alot.

Ya in alot of lakes you can use anything that will catch you fish. When I went I had alot of nibbles on a thumper and I tryed worms for a bit not much action just one small one. When you fished for them what did you use???

Small white jig baited with a meal worm, or single J hook with a minnow or meal worm, add on a small split-shot about 12 inches from the hook to get it down to close to bottom. Sometimes can jig smallest Len Thompson spoon, orange with black spots was my fav. I never had much luck with the roe sack, but some guy's do. I liked 6 lb test line. Most of my trout fishing was in stocked ponds.

Ya we have alot of trophy ponds so they are alot harder. We do have a few ponds with only small trout but not many of them. The lake that I fish for brook trout has huge Brookies. Last spring I caught a 20 inch brook trout if was 4 1/2lb. And I seen alot like it in that lake but there so tricky.

No but for a brook trout in a pond it's pretty nice for in Alberta. All the brook trout lakes around here there are mostly only stalkers
