Canim Lake area in June

Hi all,
One of my strategies for getting through this time of year is to plan ahead.
I try to plan a fishing trip or two, and start fantasizing about the next hunting trip. So, I have booked a cabin up at Canim Lake in early June. I've never been there before. I am aware, however, that it is a pretty big lake. I'm interested in fishing Canim, but also in fishing and exploring the area. I'd like to hear of your experiences in the area and any advice for exploring (hiking or quading) and fishing elsewhere in the area.
Thanks

I spent 2 days flyfishing Canim a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly, we did well on scud patterns in the day and caddis flys in the evening. Rainbows were a nice average size, but I didn't get into any really big ones. Saw a couple of huge lake trout roll on the surface.

Lot of cabins and activity on the lake, but as you said it is a big lake and there is room to get away. I hear the rivers in the area are productive, but I never tried them.
I would fish Canim again happily.

Enjoy your trip.

Howard Lake off the South Canim Rd is one you have to try. 'Bows to 6 or 7 pounds are very possible.

Canim itself is a good Lake Char lake and in June you should find them in the shallows. A trolled spoon or plug will work well. Fly-fishing a big leach along shoal edges also works well.

Be VERY careful if out on Canim on a boat. The lake can go from dead-flat to 4 foot chop amazingly quickly.

Pablo,

I got a place on Horse Lake, it is good early in the morning or right a sun down, the lake comes alive those two times of the day. During the day well good luck, you would have to go deep. I have given up fishing gear and moved more to fly fishing the lake. Shrimp patterns would wonders that time of the year, in either red or green.

But as Cariboo said, watch the winds, I stay off the lake around 15:00hrs as out of no where she starts to blow for a good 1/2hr then not a ripple on the lake. I thought my old man was going nutts to when he told me that, until I saw it, every day right at 15:00hrs there is the wind.

I am in the same boat as you Pablo, I just got a Pontoon boat and this year to when I go up there I might try some other lakes like Fawn.

Good luck and let us know how you make out

Thanks for the info, guys.
I'm going to try your ideas, and will also avoid Canim in the afternoons.
My son and I have belly boats, and will check out Howard and some
of the other smaller lakes in the area. I've been checking out the
terrain on google earth too. Man, it looks like some beautiful terrain,
especially to the north up through Hendrix and Crooked Lakes.
I'm going to see if we can get up into some alpine areas there.
Hopefully, there won't be too much snow by June. Sounds like quite
the snow pack right now. I'l let you know how it turns out.

I used to play out there! First off there will still be lots of snow in the alpine you mentioned, I used to snowmobile those spots until the may-long!
If your staying at canim, definately check out howard, and Mahood. As well the canim river below the falls is an awesome place to fish. Especially if the stone-fly hatch is on! Nice country up there, bring lots of bug-dope!
