May 1st - Interior Lake Fishing

For the LM guys, who's getting to the interior this weekend to hit the trout lakes?

My first trip won't be until May long, to Sheridan to get a piece of one of those big triploids. Rumour is there should be one over 20#s wacked this year

May long weekend will see the annual McLeese lake fishing derby underway.

If you are looking for big rainbows both Dragon and Forest are a stones throw away.

Looks like the ice is mostly off Sheridan as of this morning!

Are you going to be fishing McLesse Lake for the derby Gary?

I will probably end up spending a good deal of time in the weigh-in tent looking for any sign of the "lost" blackwater strain rainbows the lake was stocked with a few years ago. (I personally think they all swam up Sheridan Creek and were lost) Over 1000 trout weighed in at derbies over the last 3 years and not a single clipped fin to be found.

I will wait until after the derby to try and get some kokanee in the smoker.

I've tried Sheridan and never solved the riddle. Big fish every where, but lots of food available. Good luck.

Hey Cariboo, that Derby sounds interesting, is it a big draw?

It usually draws 250+ entries. The total prize package is usually over $4000.00 in cash and prizes. Once I get the breakdown I will post the details here.

It is a fun derby as lake does not hold any really large fish. Most years a kokanee wins the "big-fish" prize and any angler entering holds as good a chance at winning first place as anyone else as a lot of luck is involved.

I went on Eena lake the other day and it was non stop from 0930 to 1230 when my arms were to tired to fish any more. 3/4 pounders that were scrappy as hell and 2-3 pounders that were full of eggs. I let everything go. Gonna be on again Wed. Good hard hits every cast and fish on every 2nd or 3rd.
