Shuswap River Springs

Any word on whether there are any fish in the Shuswap below Mabel Lake? Is it even open right now?

The old man caught one the other day - better off if you have something to drift down in instead of hanging out with the crowds.

Thanks guys... I think I might head up during the week (ahh, the life of a teacher) and hope to beat some of the crowds.

I hate to remind you that I'm a Teacher-on-call and that any day I don't get a call for a job, I'll be hitting the bush. I also hate to remind you that you're tied to a desk every day of every week...

Beak,
You'll be the first guy I send my pics to upon return from my month up north in September/October. One great aspect of the trip besides sheep hunting in a surreal setting is that I'll be getting paid while I am up there!

Do me a favour, can you get out scouting a bit more for me this summer I have a few areas I need to be checked before fall? You seem to have an abundance of time right now!

Old man also said the river was muddy the other day - figured a tree had fallen in or a bank had slide in as the river was super muddy.

What condition are the springs in that far away from the ocean? I know of a guy who catches them in Mabel lake(I think) and claims they are still good eating even though they turn black as soon as you bonk em.Not sure how good they could be.

Dark fish are fine, don't let the picky people fool you into throwing them back.

Mabel

Was just up at Mabel lake last week... It was a gong show on the lake! Nearly 25-30 boats all doing laps for the few measly dark springs that where around. Rented a boat from south mabel general store for dirt cheap, Surprisingly. Went out when they opened the mouth of the upper shushwap just below the falls, Had three fish on but none to the boat, The one fish was actually quite nice looked silver with just a dark-ish head...

Then went down to allendale lake in the Okanagan, and met up with Joe89? ans BS-d around the camp fire with his family and friends. Also caught some nice rainbows out of allendale, Some in the 20 to 25 " range.
Was a fun trip!
