Some Fin Different
Made it down to Mexico in March for some R&R. Managed two days of fishing. Day one was small game fishing where Bonito & Yellow fin were caught. Overall the fishing that time of year was usually slow we were told as the "blue" water is well offshore(40-60 miles). Our captain had said that in peak times(Dec-Jan) a dozen hook-ups/day was not uncommon.
We gaver a go a few days later by headin out to the 20 mile mark for some larger game. At $150.00/day for the boat you couldn't go wrong. A couple of sailfish broke the surface throughout the day, but nothin hit until we were half way back to shore.
Hooked a five foot Dorado & for the first five minutes it was all over the place. No hook in the lip for these things. They nail the bait! After forty-five minutes we had it up to the boat & the color of these fish(which is lost when they're taken out of the water) is spectacular!
Once the fish was onboard, there was no pulling of gills or whacks over the noggin, but a well shaken bottle of Corona jammed down its throat[which after much thought(2 seconds), is the way I want to go!]& it was all over.
Back at the pier, a slab was cut off & taken to the nearest restaurant for dinner.
A slow start, but a great finish to the day.
The billfish & black marlin were caught by others.
