Vancouver Island fishing right now?

I am here for a few days, and am wondering if there is any decent freshwater fishing around the Nanaimo - Comox area right now?

A big problem I have encountered is that most of the wilderness lakes are not accessible due to the Extreme fire hazard rating, so the gates are locked. Some areas that used to let you in are no longer allowing access.
