Question 7MM Rem. Mag. Comparison

I have read/heard somewhere that Swift A Frame and Nosler Partition are compable....is this so ?
I ask because I just bought a used BAR in 7MM Rem.Mag. & have used Remington Premier A Frame 180 grain for both moose & deer with great results. I am looking at the Remington A Frame in 160 grain factory load (that is all that is available) to use for both moose & deer....what do you think ? I am getting tired of looking at all the comparisons and would like to know that the A Frame is "good as it gets " for me ... My shots can range usually less than 100 yards but occassionally up to 350....my .30-06 was a killing machine at those distances but the continuous jamming of the infamous Remington Jam-o-matic has finally got to me after 40 years and my son now says that he wants to inherit the "problem. He is an auto mechanic and figures that he and his buddies can fix it ?

The A-Frame, like the partition, is a "dual-core" bullet. The rear portion is separated from front by a copper "partition" built into the bullet. The only difference is that the Swift bullet is "bonded" while the Partition isn't.

The Partition is designed to loose a good portion - or all - of it's nose section after mushrooming leaving the rear portion - now back near calibre diameter - to penetrate deep and usually exit.

The Swift with it's bonded cores retains nearly all it's weight and provides a wide mushroom. The downside with this is that it usually doesn't penetrate as deeply as the Partition. This lack of penetration is not an issue with deer or moose and is probably not an issue on any Canadian animals with the possible exception of Bison.

Even then I think the argument between the two is more of an exercise in splitting hairs rather than anything meaningful during an actual hunt.

My advise would be to shoot both and see which is the most accurate in YOUR rifle.

For a few years, my go-to moose rifle was a 7mmMag and I settled on the 175gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw. Every bull I shot had devastating internal damage and complete penetration with a small exit hole whether head on, quartering or broadside. They are expensive but they've never let me down. If deer were on the menu for that Seven, then I loaded 160gr Nosler Partitions

I've used 150 gr Nosler Partitions for many years on lots of deer and a few moose, elk w.h.y and had really good performance. Excellent mushroom and really good accuracy. Of course accuracy depends on many other factors, but I find it hard to argue with success. I bought some factory Fed Premium 175 grain shells for a caribou hunt this year for a little extra punch. Never shot anything, but they grouped really well with my rifle. (30 yr old Tikka) I really like the rifle and nosler bullets. Been thinking about trading up to T3 to get a lighter rifle, but I'm not sold yet.
