Ashnola sheep!!!

Hey all,

Well I finally drew a tag for a sheep in the Ashnola for Sept.1-7 in region 8-03B!!!! I have now gotten four draws in almost 20 years so pretty dismal but maybe this year will be my year.

So I guess what I would like to know from you guys and gals is if any of you have hunted this area and if you would be able to point me in the right direction (ie. drainages, access, etc.). I have been up the Ashnola main a few times but have usually hunted on the west side of the river. I know I will have to be doing a lot of hiking so the training starts today.

Also, just in general any pointers on sheep hunting would greatly be appreciated. I have just ordered an Elite 15-45x60 spotting scope so I guess that is a start.

Thanks, BCBairdo

Hey BCH,

I'll let you know because right now it may be a bit dicey as to whether my buddy can make it or not. Didn't you get a sheep last year in the Kamploops region?

BCBairdo - way to go on the draw ! Now the fun starts, lots of scouting should be in order, a good way to get in shape ! If you can, practice judging those curleys lots so that you have a better idea what is a legal shooter. That process alone can be frustrating. These sheep draws should be charished dearly, and not squandered. Good Luck !!

Ashnola sheep

Take a big water bottle. I drew last year. If its real hot look in the timber at treeline. Good luck.

What drainages were you concentrating on? Where did you access from and how long did it take to pack into the alpine?

I've hunted the Asnola since before the draw. My partner and I have been drawn 4 times over the years that the draw has been in place and have killed sheep. We hunted mulies in there as well nearly every year. We always went with horses. I left B.C,. 3 years ago and am in Alberta now. PM with your email or phone number if I can help.
