GOABC survey, more LEH!!!

Hey guys and gals, check out this survey by the GOABC.

Read this and comment on the survey!!!

Resident Hunters for Quality Hunting

We are slowly losing our rights as residents to hunt in BC to a multi-national organization who wants to put most hunts on LEH and restrict our rights to hunt in BC.

There is a ton more info on the "other" hunting site that you can check out.

We need to start fighting back!!!!

Cheers

Resident hunters have always been a thorn in the side of GOBC, and I'm sure the more restrictions placed on us is a bonus for them. I don't believe Guides are really interested in resident hunters as clients, and doubt if the majority of their business is from residents.
Ideally they would love to see us banned from GOS crown land hunting that falls within their guiding territory's.

Some Outfitters do rely on resident hunters for their income, and I can see where they would really want repeat business, and hope their clients did have a good quality hunting experience. If there is a lot of pressure from non-paying residents in the same area, this potentially reduces the chance for their paying clients to have that quality experience, so I'm sure they also support restrictions on GOS.

It's us against them. Perhaps the only effective way as individuals that we can fight back is as members, through a concerted efforts of associations like the BCWF, and other hunting fishing clubs.

LEH hunts have their place in conservation, but I think that it is less, and less, becoming a tool for that, and more of a means of restricting residents from hunting.

Sitka.......them are slick questions that insure a "Right" answer regardless of the one chosen......limited choice answer... the survey people choose all the answers.

take for instance the question regarding whether you are happy with the current science based management.........EXCUSE ME!!! but in some respects it does not really exist...politics based management under the guise of science. I couldn't answer that question in the affirmative.

The leading question........do you think female seasons could reduce populations??? Duhhh!!! but see how that will play??....resident are concerned that doe seasons will reduce populations.

Best thing resident hunters could do about that survey is to email GOABC and tell them to shove it up there ASS!!

I agree. The so-called survey can be manipulated to show whatever result they want.

The GOABC has proven to be untrustworthy and quite capable of lying to forward their agenda.

The bottom line is that the members of the GOABC make a living off a public resource and would like nothing better than to further limit resident hunting to increase their profit margins.

.
Gotta agree with both of you guys. As I read those questions I just looked at them thinking....."could they ever spin these answers in a huge variety of ways".

Sorry Guys

I ment to say, comment on the survey, not do the survey.

I am sitting here at home with Vertigo and sometimes I forget what is up and what is down.

Thanks for pointing it out. I did the survey to get on their email list to see the results later. Curious as to what type of spin they will throw on the whole thing.

Cheers

I think the best "reply" to GOABC is to support: BCWF Resident Angler and Hunter Preservation Fund

Here's another goody for you - we wait for the LEH synopsis to come out some time in May, and last year our draw results were delayed, yet the GOABC gets their allocations from MoE in February. Basically, some non-resident knows he is going moose hunting three months before you even get to look at what is available in the regs. How does that reflect resident priority in allocations?

Hell FD, my clients know two years in advance when they are going moose hunting. We hunt in an LEH area and the quota got dropped from 18 bulls and 4 cow/calf to 12 bulls and 4 cow/calf. The outfitter I work for does not care though, as that is all he wants. It is a small operation w/ 3 guides, so the quota drop was Ok with him, although it doesn make it harder to sell later........

Good Idea to post the link to the preservation fund!!!!

Cheers

The GOABC have formed a very effective lobby that has the ear of the Campbell government. Commercializing and privatizing public resource is what this current provincial government is all about. Supporting the BCWF is a good thing to do, getting in contact with your MLA and letting them know how you stand on the topic is equally if not more effective. Write a letter, get a 1/2 dozen like minded contsituents together and set up a face to face with your MLA and invite them to any local hunting/shooting meetings that will be taking place in their riding.
