has anyone ever come across this?

This morning i was checking my snares and come across a very large rabbit ..

so i take it home .. i clean 3 other rabbits and get to the big one

skin it, cut it open and pull out the insides ....

and there was this thing ... were one kidney used to be .. it was as if the kidney had a HUGE tumor in it,

it grew to about 5 - 6x's the size of a normal rabbit kidney with white growth on the insides (of the kidney) and protruding out.

has anyone ever come across this?

needless to say i had to throw away the whole rabbit as i didnt know what this growth is and was kind of disgusted by it.

No, but I came across a huge white growth in the shoulder of a Moose one time. I just happened to stumble upon a guy that had a Moose down and stopped to give him a hand. I don't know what he ended up doing, but I was having nothing to do with it

Could be Tularemia which can manifest itself in the organs of an infected hare. Tularemia is the reason you should always wear gloves while handling and skinning wild hares.

glad to hear this .. i always wear vinyl or latex gloves when cleaning any animal (except when plucking)

my first time ever (fresh rabbit).. i didnt like how the blood made my hands get sticky

plus the thought of having a cut and rabbit blood/ any animal ... you know

im havnt done any big game yet (up to the elbows in blood), so maybe im just over thinking it ... but i still like to wear gloves when cleaning, wont clean an animal without them

Edit:
depending how tomorrow goes (lost of work to do).. i might put on a respirator and dig it out of the bin and take a picture, i dont take many pictures but i've never seen anything like it ... maybe not if considered a bad idea

(also im not in bc)

It can get messy..if it really bothers you, there are gloves you can get from pond supply stores that will reach up past your elbows..

If you get blood up to your elbows while cleaning big game you are doing it wrong. LoL

You should be able to field-dress animals as large as moose and elk and not get blood above your wrists. Carry a folding belt saw on your belt or in your pack while hunting and split the brisket to remove the windpipe, heart, and lungs rather than going diving for them and the mess will be minimal. Additionally an animal with it's rib cage split and held open will cool a lot faster and produce better quality meat.
