Smile Hows the winter going?

Thought I should post a couple of photos just to let you know that we also have to suffer the hardships of hunting in the cold down here in Oz.

Who said life wasn't meant to be easy? Looking for goats in the tropics.

The mercury must have droped to near on 35C that day. An average Queensland pig.

Mick taking in the view and the sun.

It was soo cold I almost had to wear a shirt!

Anyway fellas I hope you all had a great hunting season.

Rod

Nice pictures.

The winter here in the British Columbia Interior is just moving right along. Currently it is right at 0c @ 6:45 am which is about 10 - 15 degrees warmer than normal. Big game hunting is done in this region for the year and the coyote, wolf, and cougar hunters starting to gear up for the winter.

I was just watching the news and they had a nice article on how the number of Australian tourists has skyrocketed here in Canada as a large number of your countrymen are escaping those 30c temperatures to experience a "white" Christmas.

Go ahead rub it in...

Love that first picture of you guys sitting on the beach in camo..lol.. I didn't know they had "In Rut" scented sunscreens.

I would have thought that hunting season down there would be in March or April, the equivalent to our fall. Being that the winter solstice just passed, are your hunting seasons in the springtime?

G'day Cariboo,
yes Canada is proving popular with Aussie tourists, especially now that Aus $ is at paratity with the US$. Hopefully one day I'll get over there for a bit of a poke around as well.
Regards
Rod

G'day Rifleman our hunting seasons are a bit flexable.

For example most game like pigs, goats, deer and indeed just about anything can be shot all year round in Queensland. However in the summer it is generally raining so the heat and weather sort of restricts the amount of hunting on offer. The shot of my mate and I all camed up on the beach was taken in November (our spring) it was hot, carrying enough water was the limiting factor. But if your keen you can hunt.

We hunt our Red deer in March, April May(our Autumn/Fall), which is the roar/rut. It is cooler but not cold, you may need to put on a jumper at night. However if your after a meat animal then you would go out in July/August when it's colder (day time max of 15C to 22C) howver as there is no season you can shoot them when ever you want.

Therefore I suppose most of our hunting in Queensland is done in the cooler months March to early October because it is just too damned hot and or wet at other times.

But rest assured we do have cold and snow in this country. I went down to Victoria last August after Sambar for the first time. I camped out and go snowed, hailed, sleeted, blown and soaked for the hole 9 days I was in the bush. Only saw 3 der (2 hinds and a spike) so never fired a shot.

This a a photo of a dingo/wild dog that I shot in April while on a red deer hunt. As you can see it wasn't cold.

And this is a fairly typical Red Stag that I shot on the same trip.
Regards
Rod

I can't recall a winter without snow, but damn... I almost booked a flight for Thailand today. My buddy is going, and I almost tagged along....But I feel bad for The Girl who just busted up her ankle...SO I gotta stay here and feed the livestock.

Good pics, congrats. Maybe next year I can have Christmas on the beach!

This was a great thread until you showed up. A long trip to Thailand would be a wonderful idea. Just do it.

Good day to you Rod from Oz. Winter is a very special and fine time of year - especially for children and those who work 4 months of the year in the oil patch.
