hunting deer with shotguns

I currently hunt in an area where its shotgun only. I have been using my remington 1187 whithout a rifled barrel for the last couple years. This year I would like to get buy a rifled barrel for my shotgun. However for a little more money I can buy a brand new gun that has a rifled barrel and is meant for deer. Is their any difference between the two, and also any suggestions of guns would be appreciated.

When I started out hunting, it was for those monster bucks on Saltspring. I just went with 00 buck in an old 12ga break action. If you haven't tried it yet, buy rifled slugs for the smooth bore & give it a go.

If your on Van. Island, better make sure it's not a "shotgun with shot only" restricted area.

I too have had good accuracy with rifled slugs in a smoothbore. The range is still limited, but will reach out better than buckshot. I imagine a rifled barrel would give you a bit more of an edge, but it might be worth trying a few slugs at the range in your existing barrel, to see how they do.
