It would have the shell from a 300-378, necked in to fit a .277 calibre bullit. I would want to try shooting yotes at 1km with it. |

I used to have a Garand M1 many years ago, and found that was a great little gun for going out plinking, and target shooting.
I would like a cartridge that uses the same .30 carbine case, with a .22 bullet. This way you could reload your own (cheap) ammo, and have a .22 that can travel further without the bullet drop a regular .22 suffers from. Shot out of a semi-auto, it would be a great gun for target practice, or shooting cans, etc, out to 200+ yards. Kind of a lightweight varmint rifle.

Huh! In my previous post I mentioned a willdcat cartridge that I would like to see, and here a week later a fellow in New Zealand has produced, and tested one. How ironic.
Here is his post from today regarding this wildcat..sounds pretty sweet! HANDLOADING FOR HUNTING - Wildcat based on the M1 Carbine Spitfire Round

I think a 35cal. fitted into a 300WM. case would be a good thumper for B.C.

Basically if you want a real flat shooter, a 7mm or 6.5 bullet will have abetter Ballistic Coefficient than a .270 bullet therefore producing less drop and less wind drift than the .270 bullet.
But they will all be barrel burners and there is likely a better way to get form A to B. 1000 yard competitors don't shoot .277-378 Weatherbys.
