Jordon River fire
We have been pretty fortunate here on the Island ,that in spite of extremely dry conditions we have been spared any major fires. I think the fact that we don't get the lightning storms like they do in the interior, has been a major factor in that.
Of course we can't avoid the stupid factor. This one in Jordon river, although still fairly small, is suspected of being started by a person. http://bcwildfire.ca/ftp/!Project/Wi...0945%20007.JPG In comparison I see the Dean river fire discovered on Saturday (lightening strike) has already grown up to 480 Hectares. Apparently it's a hard one to get ground crews into. Lots of timber to keep this one fed for awhile.. http://bcwildfire.ca/ftp/!Project/Wi...20Aug14-10.JPG The Cassiar fire isn't slowing down one bit, and continued hot weather is expected to keep this one consuming more forest. 26,000 hectares burnt so far.. http://bcwildfire.ca/ftp/!Project/Wi...8_DSC00412.JPG The Yalakom Valley fire continues to burn, although 30% contained, it's consumed over 2000 hectares. Might make for some interesting hunting in a few years.. http://bcwildfire.ca/ftp/!Project/Wi...8_DSC_6074.JPG There is still smoke in the air around here, although we did get a break for a couple of days..Certainly not getting any cooler, the last few days have been scorchers!
