Smile Name the cartridges

How about a simple little "guess the cartridge" game.

Bonus points for identifying the type of bullets loaded.

You haven't told me if I got any right on your pic

Any other tries?

Going once

Going twice

OK, not right 'Boo, and I can't give in that easily on one of the few truly oddball things in my gun room.

Any thoughts on the other rounds sitting there anyone?

Hmmmm, the "voices" are telling me to "stop already"....................My wife keeps telling me they're not real, but sometimes they have some REALLY good ideas

Hmm..looks can be deceiving..

It looks that more than one of us figured the one on the far right was a .35 Whelen. The case looks in that picture to be about the same as an-06 case necked up..?
How about a .338-06? The neck still looks to small to be a .376 Steyr

Fifth from left a .257 Roberts?

I think MTK must have nailed it with the other being a .280 Remington, but for the sake of being different how about a .280 Ackley Improved..that's an oddball for you..

Well. I'm headed to the bush for a bit, not sure when I will get back here so, the ones in my pic are as follows:
350 Rem Mag
30-378 WBY Mag
375 H&H
50 BMG
577 Kynoch

Have a good one

RD, have a great trip!

Rifleman, You got the 338-06 correct. It's loaded with a Barnes TTSX 210 grain bullet.

No to the .280 though as well as the 257 Roberts. There are no 7mm's of any flavour in the bunch and the 25 calibres have already been identified.

Slowly narrowing them down..

How about that one fifth from left being a .260 Remington?

Hmm.. Ok, so the third from right is different from the 30-06 case in that it has a longer shoulder, and appears to be the same angle by degrees, and the shoulder appears to start at the same point as the 30-06 case does, (or is that an illusion from the photo). The case overall length also appears slightly longer than the 30-06, and the bullet appears to be slightly smaller in diameter then .30 cal, ( all factors which made me think it was the .270 initially).
The .270 Howell case is pretty close, but it is such an obscure wildcat, as is the .280 Howell, I can't picture either being in your collection. The bullet diameter also appears slightly bigger than .25 cal otherwise I would think of it as maybe a .25-06 Rem., as well the case length of the 25-06 is exactly the same as the 30-06, not a tad longer.

You also mention the .25 cal's have already been identified...so the .25 cal, 7mm, .280 ,.270 have all been ruled out, the bullet appears smaller than a 8mm, so we can rule them out..sheesh thats a tough one.

How about I guess a 6.5-64 Brenneke just to be really different..lol

So is it just the third from right, and the fifth from left we are still working on ID'ing? My brain is getting tired..lol
