new Hunter

I am going to ask a stupid question, and here it goes.I was given the model 500 deer slugster by mossburg arms.(12 gauge)
My question since it is a fully rifled barrel/
could i use this shotgun for ducks ,geese, turkey etc.?
would it accept anything else other than a rifled slug or would the barrel get damaged or worse explode?

No, your shotgun won't explode if you fire shot through it. With that said the patterns would really suck and killing anything would be more a matter of luck rather than anything else.

The good news is that extra barrels for your 500 are not too expensive. Cabelas Canada for example has a 28" vent ribbed smooth barrel for about $170.00

Cabelas Canada - Firearms-Reloading - Firearm Accessories - Barrels & Choke Tubes - Mossberg 500 & Maverick 88 Blued Barrels - 12 Gauge

Cariboo is very right
I had a Remington with a rifled bbl, and I can tell you that you would be lucky to hit a 45gal drum at 10 yards with a load of birdshot.

Cheers

I wonder if the rifling would actually cause the shot wad to spin on it's way down the barrel? That would sure spray the shot around, once it left the barrel..

You might also find a reasonably priced used barrel for it on ebay. I see them come up from time to time..
