Pemberton 4-Pointer
Hello guys:
Here's my buck for the season. Pemberton's got an 'any buck' season, but my buddy got this 4-pointer beauty with his Model 94. Sadly, my 336 will not be blessed this year. ![]() Here's the shooter. His first shot was a lung shot, but that buck just kept right on bounding down the mountain, leaking copious amounts of blood. Good thing for the blood cos that thick bush will make it impossible otherwise to find the deer! The story goes like this: The guy who actually shot the deer was my good friend and fellow Knight of Columbus, Elemer Lazar, who is the Faithful Navigator in our 4th Degree Assembly. Elemer had dropped me off at the snow line (about 14 km mark) and I was to bushwhack my way down the mountain and meet up with him at a pre-arranged place. We both thought the pre-arranged place was at about the 10km mark. We were wrong. It was just before the 1 km mark!! Anyways, I could not get through the thick bush where he dropped me and decided to walk further east. I finally found a break in the thick bush to penetrate and walked through there. After about 2 hours of stalking very slowly and quietly, I decided to head back to the road. I re-entered the gravel trail at about the 6 km mark. I was about to walk up when I met another pair of hunters who told me that Elemer had gone into another road (which was up another couple of kms). So I thought oh what the heck, I'll just meet him at the pre-arranged spot anyway. Anyway, long story short, when Elemer raised me on the radio, I was near the 1 km mark. I had to walk back up 10 km to get the truck. He'd shot the deer and tracked it down over the side of the mountain. It was about 200 metres into the thick bush. It was interesting getting that 4-point buck out of the thick bush. Two very tired, very hungry guys. At the last little hill, Elemer had all but packed it in. So I dragged that little sucker over the hill myself. Elemer thought the buck was gonna land on me! Lets put it this way...my legs are still burning! Still, I think it was all worth it. What a great way to see God's country and breathe in the REAL FRESH air!! The venison at the end of the day was well, the meat that will go next to the potatoes and gravy ;-) We followed these tracks on fresh powder until they went up a near vertical hill. Man...I really appreciate the flatlands now!! Our truck actually got stuck on this road. It was pretty hairy making that 40-point turn. ![]() We finally dropped off the deer at Christ the King Seminary in Mission, which is the Westminster Abbey, where the kind brothers allowed us to hang the deer to cure on their acreage outside their steer barn. They also agreed to help us butcher it, which is when I should be able to tell how heavy that sucker is. |

Well, we had done the loop. We left Pemberton hoping to hit Lilooet and get some Whitetail in Region three.
Well, the road up was scary slippery with at least a foot and a half of snow everywhere. Halfway to Lilooet we were already changing our minds to dinner, which we finally had at Lytton. So, since were there already, the next logical step was to go back home that way. And since were were passing by the abbey, and my buddy's brother is a brother there...well, he really needed to stop and show off his deer. One thing led to another and we get to use their facilities. We are both brother Knights after all.
