Shooting tape off the barrel?

Can you shoot the electrical tape right off the end of your barrel? Is it Safe? Still accurate? We were talking about this in camp at length.

Yes to both questions. As long as the tape is OVER - and not wedged into - the muzzle opening it will be blown off long before the bullet exits the barrel.

I bought "cotts" from WSS for a couple of bucks a pack, they slide over the end of the barrel rather than use tape. They look like mini-condoms. Kenkell takes some with him for a night on the town in Nelson.

A prudent person would perform an experiment in order to determine the results. I am a strong advocate of such self learning endeavours. Should only require 1 shot to verify but best to take 3 or 4.

Black electical tape is a good choice.

As Gary mentions, the tape is long gone before the bullet leaves the muzzle, so I can't see whyt there would be any point of impact change..But hey..it's a good enough excuse to go out and blow off a few rounds..

I have used electrical tape over the muzzle for about 30 years and never had an issue on changing the POI. It is a great safety tool!! Another good use of electrical tape is around the recoil pad. If your pad catches on your clothes when you are raising the rifle to your shoulder, just wrap the tape aroun the pad leaving the face of the pad uncovered. The pad will still grip to your shoulder when in firing position but will slide up your coat when raising your rifle.
